Shakti was a Black bookshop known for its extensive collection of literature on anti-racism, race relations, and socio-economics. Shakti specialised in anti-racist literature and Asian socio-political topics. It offered a selection of 6,000 titles, including books in Asian languages, bilingual works, and children’s books.

Shakti also provided services such as Asian translating and typesetting. Key figures involved in the bookshop included Ravi Jain and Sister Leonard.

The bookshop was instrumental in fostering a deeper understanding of race relations within the community. Shakti remained a significant contributor to the cultural and intellectual landscape.
