The Grassroots Storefront was a bookshop run by the Black Liberation Front (BLF). The BLF was founded in 1971 and based at 61 Golborne Road, from which it published the BLF’s newspaper, Grassroots.
In 1986 they moved to 71 Golborne Road. The BLF also established two other bookshops, Headstart Bookshop on West Green Road and Unity bookshop. Both quickly established themselves as hubs of information, events and community support, with Headstart Bookshop also offering supplementary schooling in Maths, English and Black History.
