Shelf Life Books and Zines, founded by Rosie in December 2019, began as a pop-up inside Pop'n'Hops, a beer and record shop.
Rosie's vision was to create a space for marginalised voices, stocking books from independent and self-publishers, and focusing on queer, anti-racist, anti-capitalist, and feminist literature.
In August 2020, despite the challenges posed by the Covid pandemic, the shop opened in The Castle Emporium with support from an IndieGoGo fundraiser and the local community.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with Cardiff's book lovers showing immense support.
Described as a gem in Cardiff’s independent and creative scene, Shelf Life Books and Zines operates as a not-for-profit shop, providing a platform for independent publishers and DIY zine makers.
The shop features a pay-it-forward scheme, allowing customers to donate money so others can purchase books if they are struggling financially.
Sadly the shop closed in 2025, though continues to opearte with occassional pop-ups and stalls.
Shelf Life Books and Zines was a member of the Alliance of Radical Booksellers.
