The Hydra is a workers’ cooperative, community-driven bookshop and meeting space. It was established by local residents originating from Bristol Radical History Group.

From late 2011 to June 2019, it operated in central Bristol on Old Market, offering diverse literature and renowned coffee sourced from the Zapatistas in Mexico. However, due to gentrification, the shop had to relocate. It can now be found at Cafe Kino on Stokes Croft, still providing books, zines, and meeting spaces while actively seeking a permanent home.

The Hydra aims to support independent publishers and authors, offering a platform for their works on various topics including politics, history, feminism, and environmentalism.

As it continues its search for a permanent location, it invites support from those who share its vision of a vibrant, inclusive space for learning and discourse.

Hydra Books are members of the Alliance of Radical Booksellers.
