Cradlewell Books was established by the Tyneside Socialist Centre in c.1975. The bookshop was located on the ground floor. Staff members included Jo Colley, Jane, and Steve. It was subjected to a firebomb attack by fascists, but no one was hurt.
In 1978 another shop became available in Westgate Road outside of Newcastle’s main shopping area.
The bookshop was renamed 'Days of Hope' inspired by Ken Loach's TV series with the same name.
