October books opened at 99 Mount Pleasant in 1973 before moving to 4b Temple Court in 1975.
From 1976 it was run by the Communist Workers Movement following a split from the Communist Party of Britain and later merged with the Revolutionary Communist League of Britain who took on the shop’s debts.
Those who were loyal to the Communist Party of Britain raided and seized much of their stock. This attack worsened pre-existing financial problems and October Books closed not long after in 1980.
