Round Table Books is an inclusive, Black, South Asian, Queer owned bookshop based in Brixton, specialising in books by under-represented authors and diverse characters.
It was founded in response to the 2018 Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE) Reflecting Realities report, which highlighted the lack of BAME representation in children's literature.
It was initially a pop-up to celebrate the first anniversary of the publisher Knights Of. The overwhelming response to the pop-up led to a successful crowdfunding campaign, allowing the shop to open its permanent doors in May 2019.
The bookshop is committed to diversifying children's literature and supporting independent publishers, ensuring all their books feature diverse characters in terms of race, sexuality, gender, or disability.
Co-director Meera Ghanshamdas emphasised their mission to make children's literature more inclusive. The shop's staff, Layla and India, are dedicated to assisting with book selections.
Roundtable Books is a member of the Alliance of Radical Booksellers.
