Rubicund, located in Falmouth, is a unique radical bookshop, vegan café, and lending library run by Irene and Lee. Their mission is to provide literary resources that are not available in mainstream outlets, offering a space where people can meet, discuss ideas, and grow without judgement.
Irene and Lee envisioned Rubicund as a place for exchanging ideas through workshops, screenings, and talks. Rubicund covers a wide range of topics including politics, race and migration, feminism, class, environmental issues, and vegan literature.
The café offers vegan drinks and cakes, creating a space where conversations can flourish enhancing the social aspect of the bookshop. The bookshop offers a lending library where members can sign up for a yearly membership of £15, which also grants them discounts in the café. The membership fees are reinvested to expand the library’s collection.
Despite the financial pressures of running a small business, Rubicund receives strong support from the local community and other businesses. They are members of the Alliance of Radical Booksellers.
