Headstart Books & Crafts, later known as Operation Headstart, was one of three bookshops established by the Black Liberation Front to address the lack of Black literature and books on Black history and politics available in mainstream bookshops. See also Grassroots Storefront.

Headstart was located on West Green Road in North London and it was more than just a bookshop; it also housed a supplementary school for young people. Volunteers taught maths, English, and Black history on weekends, countering the poor quality of education and discriminatory attitudes towards young Black people and children in British schools.

The shop specialised in subjects related to Africa, Black America, the Caribbean, and Black issues worldwide. It offered a stock of 5,000 titles, making it a crucial resource for the Black community seeking literature and educational materials that were otherwise difficult to source.

Headstart was still in operation in 1995.
