The People's Bookshop is on one of the alleyways off Saddler Street in Durham. In an era dominated by digital media, The People’s Bookshop offers the simple pleasure of sitting down with a good book, focusing on second-hand and pre-loved titles that might have been forgotten.
The People’s Bookshop focuses on books that tell many forgotten stories and reflects local history and personal accounts, such as folk stories and the history of local coal pits, supporting the vibrant community of Durham.
Over the next decade, they envisage The People’s Bookshop being accessible to many, bringing in new generations and old friends, providing solidarity, fomenting change, and offering hope to all who dare to imagine a better world.
The People's Bookshop is a member of the Alliance of Radical Booksellers.
The shop closed at these premises and moved to 19 High Street, Prince Bishop's Centre, Durham DH1 3UJ in 2025
