Rising Free Bookshop was an anarchist bookshop known for stocking literature exclusively from leftist groups and publishers.
It was located at 197 King's Cross Rd, London WC1X 9DB and later at 182 Upper St, London N1 1RQ.
The philosophy behind the shop was to create an independent distribution system that could disseminate radical and leftist materials as widely as mainstream publishers like Penguins.
The bookshop's commitment to anarchist principles was reflected in its collective working environment. The Rising Free collective highlighted the importance of providing access to varied political materials, even those with which they did not necessarily agree. By offering a diverse range of ideas and information, the bookshop aimed to empower individuals to develop their own political beliefs.
