The Africa Book Centre Limited was founded either in 1987 or 1989. It currently operates solely as a mail-order bookseller. It may have been connected to Third World Publications.
The Centre provides a platform for African art and culture, news, and views about political, economic, and social events in Africa, with an emphasis on post-colonial and contemporary culture and society.
With a stock of 3000 titles, its specialist subjects include African fiction, African Women's Studies, African Art & Music, African Politics & Economics and African Children's & Education.
Their venue includes a restaurant, hall, art gallery, bookshop, arts and craft shop, and a club, all themed around African culture.
Key figures linked to the Centre include Tony Zurbrugg and Alun.
It also acts as a self-help initiative by a group of African publishers to promote their output in major English-language book markets outside Africa.
