The Sheffield Peace Shop was a hub for peace and communist literature near the junction of Matilda Street and The Moor in the 1950s.

A local person remembered that it was managed by an elderly member of the Communist Party who fascinated teenagers eager to meet a 'real' communist.

The bookshop offered a variety of publications such as the Daily Worker, China Reconstructs, and Soviet Weekly. It was a place where people explored and engaged with global communist ideas and listened to broadcasts from Eastern Europe on crackly radios late at night.

By 1984, the Sheffield Peace Shop had relocated to Leopold Street, now part of the Orchard Square shopping centre.

The memories shared by former patrons highlight the bookshop's role in creating a unique, almost underground cultural space in Sheffield, leaving a long-lasting legacy among many visitors.
