56a infoshop

1991 — Present day
56a Crampton Street, London, Elephant and Castle, SE17 3AE

56a Infoshop is a long-standing, volunteer-run, DIY social centre located in Walworth, South London. Operating since 1991, it shares its space with the Fareshares Food Co-op and 56a Bikespace. Until 2003 the infoshop was a squat.

The infoshop is a unique entity having explicitly adopted the term "infoshop" in its name. It functions as a bookshop and a community hub where individuals can access information, meet like-minded people, and engage in discussions.

Open Thursday 2-8, Friday 3-7 & Sat 2-6pm, 56a Infoshop specialises in selling radical books, zines, magazines, and pamphlets on a wide variety of topics, ranging from anarchism to Zapatista movements.

It supports various causes such as (trans)feminism, anti-colonialism, environmentalism, anti-fascism, queer politics, and more. The infoshop also maintains an extensive open-access archive, providing resources on diverse radical political issues, both local and international.

56a Infoshop remains a vital resource for the community without external funding.
