Banner Books was an independent Maoist bookshop run by G V Bijur, an Indian man who managed the shop with the help of young women dressed as Young Pioneers. In the early days, Bijur even slept on the floor of the shop.
The bookshop served as a significant resource for Maoist literature and played a role in the local radical community. The bookshop met a tragic end when it was destroyed by a fire, which also injured Bijur.
He survived and returned to India with the insurance money. He later established a shop in Khan Market, New Delhi, where he imported books from China.
Banner Books also had a coordination role within the Federation of Radical Booksellers.
