Inner Bookshop

1982 — 1992
34 Cowley Road, Oxford, OX4 1HZ
1992 — 2019
111 Magdalen Road, Oxford

The Inner Bookshop began in 1982 in the back room of the former radical bookshop EOA Books, near the Plain in Cowley Road, Oxford. It was initially managed by academic biologists Ruth Ashcroft and Anthony Cheke. After taking over the entire EOA shop in 1989, the Inner Bookshop moved to larger premises at 111 Magdalen Road in 1992.

The independent bookshop specialised in mind-body-spirit, green issues, social issues, human rights, women's books, and peace and political theory with subjects ranging from Buddhism and Christianity to personal growth and shamanism.

At its peak, it held a stock of around 6000 titles.

By the mid-1990s, the Inner Bookshop flourished with the spread of New Age philosophy and published the Oxford Green Pages directory for over 20 years. The bookshop maintained a lively worldwide mail order service, expanding its reach through its website launched in 1998.

It closed in 2019.
